The names of some characters in the stories below 'may' have been changed to protect the innocent.

Who can forget the Scootacar? Built by Hunslet Engineering (Leeds) in the sixties, the one owned by Phil Hutchings was regularly placed in all sorts of unusual locations. These included the YMCA Warden's vegetable garden which was bordered by 6' chestnut fencing, the inside of the hostel entrance hall as well as being parked on top of other cars in the main carpark. It got to the point where Phil would come out from breakfast, glance left and right to determine whether his car was still in the carpark, and if he couldn't see it he would walk to work. My fondest memory of Phil and the scootacar, was when he installed a battery powered record player (in car entertainment) and went belting down Farnborough Road, blaring out "Running Bear" with a lit fire cracker wedged in between the chrome horns on the roof.
